Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (#6, 2009)

★★★

I don't know why, but Ginny Weasley never really impressed me. Maybe it's because her character wasn't properly developed in the movies over the course of the series, but the budding romance between her and Harry annoyed me. Overall, though, I did enjoy the scenes involving teen romance.

This movie had a lot of good moments, but it didn't feel so much like a stand-alone movie as it did a bridge between movies. Also, I was disappointed that even when the identity of the Half-Blood Prince was revealed, the movie didn't explain why that person called himself the Half-Blood Prince. It's not a particularly interesting answer, but I'm sure I would have wondered if I didn't already know.

  1. Yeah, i think the actress who played Ginny just wasn't very exciting, but I did like all the teen angst in this movie...brought me back to my own memories of liking someone who was with someone else, and how hard that is, and it really does feel terrible, even though from the outside, it just seems plain silly. I can't even remember if the book built up the Ginny-Harry thing better, but I think in the movies, it seemed to come out of nowhere, since movie #4, he's with Cho Chang and then he's all mad at her.

  2. I don't know what it is, but when i comment using my Google profile, i have to log in like 3-4 times, and also do the word verification each time...i've had the same problem with Ken's blog and other blogs that use blogger and use a profile in the comment...sometimes it's easier just to use 'Anonymous', and sign my name.

  3. Oh, I'm sorry you're having such an annoying time with the Google login! That's too bad. I've had trouble, too, mostly when I use IE. I've found that there are some sites that work better with Google Chrome - not surprisingly, it's usually sites associated with Google, like Blogger and Google Maps. But then there are other sites that are definitely better in IE. So I have both IE and Chrome on my computer and I'll pick and choose the browser sometimes depending on what sites I'm looking at. It's kind of annoying.

  4. I'm definitely looking forward to re-reading this book, partly because I remember really liking it, and also partly because I'm curious to see if the Ginny-Harry relationship is developed better, and if Ginny herself is developed better. I don't remember being so annoyed with the Ginny-Harry relationship the first time around...

I think in the books the teen angst stuff bugged me, but in watching the movies, the teenage relationship bits were definitely some of my favorite moments! They were really well done, I think.

  5. yeah, that's true. in the books, the teen romance stuff seemed like it was just thrown in, didn't feel very strongly about it, but the movie did play it up and made it so much more vivid and real. maybe it's just the visual aspect of movies-easier to see the pain on someone's face and their reactions to seeing someone be with someone else.
